On January 8, 2025, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it has conducted "precision" strikes targeting underground facilities used by the Houthi group, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization, to store advanced conventional weapons.

In a statement shared on platform X and reviewed by Barran Press, CENTCOM reported that its forces executed multiple precision strikes against two underground sites controlled by Iranian-backed Houthis within areas they occupy in Yemen.

According to the statement, the Houthis had utilized these facilities to launch attacks against U.S. Navy warships and commercial vessels in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

The strikes are part of CENTCOM's efforts to diminish Iranian-supported Houthi attempts to threaten regional partners and military and commercial ships in the area.

Earlier the same day, Houthi media reported that coalition aircraft targeted the "Jirban" area in the Sanhan district of Sana'a province with two airstrikes, and conducted five additional strikes on sites in the Harf Sufyan district of Amran province, north of the capital.

Since the beginning of last year, the U.S.-led coalition has conducted airstrikes against Houthi positions in various regions under their control in response to attacks on commercial shipping vessels.
