On Saturday, January 11, 2025, the Sudanese military announced the successful recapture of Wad Madani, the capital of the Al-Jazirah state, from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a statement, the army reported that its forces, alongside other regular units, are advancing on multiple fronts to "cleanse the city of rebel pockets."

Major General Fath Al-Aleem Al-Shoubali, the commander of the Sudanese Army's special operations in the Sennar region, expressed confidence that the military's advance would continue until the complete liberation of Al-Jazirah state and, ultimately, all of Sudan.

Celebratory demonstrations erupted in several cities, including Atbara, Port Sudan, Omdurman, and Kosti, as citizens expressed their joy over the recapture of Wad Madani.

The military also announced its recent success in regaining control of Wad Al-Muhaydi, located east of Wad Madani and advancing to the nearby Al-Arabiab area following fierce clashes with RSF forces.

The RSF, led by Abu Aqila Kaikal, had seized several towns in Al-Jazirah state, including Wad Madani, back in December 2023. Currently, they maintain control over vast areas of the state, with the exception of the town of Managil and its surrounding regions, extending to the borders of Sennar state to the south and White Nile state to the west.
