On January 11, the Armed Forces reported taking Wad Madani, the capital of Al Jazirah State, and freeing prisoners, who are being safely returned to their families.
In an audio statement, Rapid Support Forces leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemeti) acknowledged his troops' defeat in Wad Madani but vowed to retake it.
Since April 2023, Sudan has faced a power struggle between the Sudanese army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, causing a humanitarian crisis and displacement.
