On January 13, 2025, Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak met with UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg to discuss encouraging the Iran-backed Houthi group to engage in peace efforts. The meeting focused on reviving the political process, addressing escalating Houthi violations against civilians, and releasing abducted UN staff.

They also discussed the regional and international support needed to tackle economic challenges exacerbated by the Houthis, including attacks on oil export ports and commercial ships.

Prime Minister bin Mubarak reaffirmed the government's commitment to a comprehensive peace based on UN Resolution 2216 while emphasizing that Houthi activities threaten regional and global security. UN Envoy Grundberg appreciated the Yemeni government's positive engagement and reiterated the UN's commitment to a comprehensive peace process.
