International Commitments to Yemen Include Security and Defense, Says Ahmed Bin Mubarak

On January 21, Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, Yemen's Prime Minister, announced that international support for Yemen would extend beyond political and economic aspects to include security and defense. This aims to enhance the government's ability to secure the country and its waterways amid challenges from the Iran-backed Houthis.
During ministerial meetings in New York, Bin Mubarak highlighted that Yemen would be an active partner in this new phase of international support. The plan focuses on transitioning from limited aid to a sustainable economic strategy and strengthening private-sector partnerships.
The UK, represented by Middle East Minister Hamish Falconer, supports the new plan. The initiative includes the UK-led support facility, TAFFY, which will provide experts and equipment to bolster Yemen's Coast Guard and announce increased humanitarian funding.
