Public protests erupted in Lahj and Abyan governorates, southern Yemen, on Saturday, as residents voiced their frustration over prolonged power outages and worsening living conditions.
In Lahj, dozens of residents of Al-Houta took to the streets for the third consecutive day, according to "Barran Press" correspondents, protesting the severe decline in basic services and the collapsing economy. Protesters burned tires and chanted slogans against local authorities, accusing officials of inaction and a lack of solutions to the ongoing crisis.
Activist Saddam Al-Lahji stated that while residents have endured hardship for an extended period, they are no longer willing to live in darkness and deprivation while the government remains passive.
Similar protests took place in Abyan, where demonstrators condemned the poor state of essential services, particularly the unreliable electricity supply. They demanded improvements in various sectors, including water, health, education, and road infrastructure, and called for greater transparency and accountability in the management of local revenues.
