Yemen’s internationally recognized government welcomed the U.S. State Department’s immediate designation of the Iran-backed Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hailed the move as crucial to countering Houthi attacks on civilians, infrastructure, and Red Sea shipping, which threaten global trade, urging the world to follow suit, cutting off the group’s funding and arms, according to a statement.
The government highlighted years of conflict fueled by Iranian support for the Houthis, viewing the U.S. decision as a boost to its anti-terrorism partnership with the United States and allies, securing both the region and maritime trade. The US also announced a $15 million reward for information on Houthi financial networks.
