A fire completely destroyed the makeshift dwelling of a displaced family within Al-Suwaida camp in northern Marib, Yemen, on Wednesday, local sources reported. The blaze engulfed the home of Hassan Abdullah Hassan Ghabara, a father of six from the Nihm district of Sana'a province.
Mr. Ghabara sustained burn injuries to his limbs in the incident. The family's shelter, constructed from flammable woven materials, was entirely consumed by the fire, resulting in the loss of all personal belongings, including clothing, documents, and cash.
This incident underscores the persistent vulnerability of displaced populations in Marib's camps.
Previous fires have resulted in numerous civilian casualties and extensive property damage. Official data from the Executive Unit for the Management of Displacement Camps documents 208 fires throughout 2024, leading to four fatalities and 40 injuries, with women, children, and the elderly disproportionately affected.
