U.S. President Donald Trump launched a sharp rebuke of the Iran-backed Houthi movement and their sponsor, Iran, accusing Tehran of orchestrating Houthi aggression in Yemen.
In a Truth Social post on Monday, March 17th, Trump declared, "The hundreds of attacks being made by Houthi, the sinister mobsters and thugs based in Yemen, who are hated by the Yemeni people, all emanate from, and are created by, IRAN. Any further attack or retaliation by the "Houthis" will be met with great force.," holding Iran directly accountable.
Trump alleged Iran provides the Houthis with advanced weaponry, funding, and intelligence, asserting, "Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!."
His comments follow recent U.S. airstrikes targeting Houthi-controlled sites across multiple Yemeni provinces, including Sana’a, Saada, Dhamar, Al-Bayda, Marib, and Hajjah. U.S. officials, as reported by Reuters, confirmed the strikes, which began on Saturday, March 15th, represent a more aggressive approach and could continue for days or weeks. Trump had previously authorized "decisive and strong military action" against the Houthis, stating, "Your time is up."
