The American Center for Justice (ACJ) reported the death of prisoner Rabee Ali Hussein Abu Moshaf in Qahza Prison, a facility in Saada, northern Yemen, controlled by Iran-backed Houthis. On Sunday, Abu Moshaf was discovered hanged in a bathroom, sparking allegations of torture or extrajudicial killing.
According to ACJ, prison officials under the command of “Abu Hani” rejected calls for an investigation and ordered an immediate burial. The organization denounced the incident as a breach of Yemeni law and international agreements, including the Convention Against Torture.
Official figures revealed over 350 deaths linked to torture in Houthi-run prisons since their 2014 takeover. ACJ has urged the international community to launch an impartial investigation into Abu Moshaf’s death without delay.
