On Sunday, the coastal district of Dhubab, located near the Bab al-Mandab Strait in western Taiz Governorate, experienced an unprecedented tidal surge, resulting in significant property damage and displacement. The surge, described by local residents as a unique occurrence, prompted immediate calls for emergency assistance.
The event commenced at approximately 9:30 p.m., inundating residential areas and displacing numerous families. Fishing vessels were also swept from their moorings, contributing to substantial material losses.

Following the surge, Sheikh Abdulqawi Al-Wajih, Director of Dhubab and Bab al-Mandab districts, conducted an on-site assessment to evaluate the damage and coordinate rescue efforts. According to district authority-affiliated media, Al-Wajih expressed deep concern regarding the scale of the destruction.

Al-Wajih also warned of the potential for subsequent tidal surges and called for proactive measures to mitigate further damage. He advocated for the establishment of volunteer teams to support rescue and community assistance efforts.
In a formal appeal, Al-Wajih urged the Presidential Leadership Council, the Governor of Taiz, and international humanitarian organizations to provide immediate aid. He reported that many residents had evacuated to higher ground due to fears of additional surges, highlighting the critical need for swift intervention.
Furthermore, Al-Wajih issued an advisory to local fishermen, recommending a temporary suspension of maritime activities due to unpredictable marine and weather conditions.
