In Taiz Governorate, southwestern Yemen, two children were injured on Saturday when a landmine planted by the Iran-backed Houthis exploded. The incident occurred in the Al-Waziyah district.

Yemen's Ministry of Defense official website, "September Net," reported that the landmine detonated in the village of Al-Taris as Abbas Hassan Ahmed Ali (9 years old) and Mursi Fahd Ahmed Sweid (10 years old) were playing near a dirt field. Abbas suffered injuries to his lower elbow and thigh, and Mursi sustained thigh wounds. Both children received first aid at a local clinic.
Taiz Governorate is tragically the region most affected by landmines planted by the Iran-backed Houthis, according to human rights reports, with 564 recorded fatalities. Al-Hudaydah (314 fatalities) and Marib (218 fatalities) have also suffered significantly.
UN reports estimate that the Iran-backed Houthis have planted approximately two million landmines across their areas of control, leading to over 20,000 civilian casualties, disproportionately impacting women and children. Rights organizations have consistently condemned the Houthis' extensive use of landmines, labeling Yemen the world's largest landmine field and demanding the provision of minefield maps to aid demining operations.
