Local sources reported on Wednesday that a 12-year-old girl, Sally Mohammed Abdullah, suffered critical injuries after being shot by a Houthi sniper in Taiz, southwestern Yemen. According to the official website of Yemen's Ministry of Defense, "September Net," the incident took place near her residence in the eastern part of the city.
These sources indicated that the Houthi sniper was positioned at Al-Sallal Hill and targeted the child, who was subsequently transported to a hospital for emergency treatment.
Separately, reports alleged that Iran-backed Houthi forces situated at Al-Sallal Hill fired mortar shells towards civilian homes in Al-Shamasi neighborhood, specifically in the Dhi Al-Nourain area. Local accounts stated that one of the shells struck a house, resulting in damage to the roof and walls, as well as other material losses.
Human rights reports pointed out that since 2015, a significant number of civilian casualties in Taiz, including 3,021 deaths and 6,361 injuries to women and children, have been attributed to the Iran-backed Houthis. These casualties are reportedly the result of sniper fire, direct shelling, and landmine detonations.
