Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced the conclusion of the first round of indirect talks with the United States in Muscat, Oman. Mediated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi, the two-hour discussions focused on Iran’s nuclear program and lifting sanctions.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Whitkoff exchanged views through Al-Busaidi. Iran described the talks as constructive and respectful, with further meetings planned for next week. No U.S. statement has been released.
Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that the talks addressed Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program and the removal of what Iran deems “illegal sanctions.” Al-Busaidi expressed hope for a “fair and binding agreement,” thanking both sides for their engagement.
The negotiations follow a U.S. two-month deadline for an agreement, per Reuters.

President Donald Trump has stressed direct talks to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions, which Tehran maintains are peaceful. Tensions persist, with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei rejecting talks under U.S. pressure and the White House signaling openness to diplomacy or military action.
