A local source in the eastern Yemeni governorate of Shabwa reported today that a drone strike, believed to be American, targeted a civilian vehicle in Ataq, the governorate's capital, resulting in the death of the driver. Residents reported a significant explosion across the city.

According to the source, who spoke with Barran Press, the strike destroyed a Hyundai Santa Fe in the vicinity of the entrance to Al-Nasr Camp. This camp is affiliated with the Second Brigade of the Shabwah Defense Forces and is situated near Ataq Airport. The vehicle, which had been traveling from Jardan, north of Ataq, was struck by the drone. The identity of the driver remains unknown at this time.

This incident marks the latest in a series of drone strikes in Shabwah. On February 12, a senior Al-Qaeda operative, Abu Mohammed Al-Hudhali Al-Makki, was killed in a U.S. drone strike in the Al-Masina’a area of Saeed district. Prior to that, on January 16, another Al-Qaeda member, Abu Saleh Al-Duwaili, was killed in a similar strike in Khora, Lower Markha district.
