U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday that American forces have conducted more than 800 airstrikes against the Iran-backed Houthi group since the resumption of military operations in mid-March.
In a statement, CENTCOM reported that these strikes have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Houthi fighters and leaders, including senior figures responsible for missile and drone operations. CENTCOM asserted that the operations were based on precise intelligence to maximize their impact on the Houthis while minimizing risks to civilians.
The statement outlined the destruction of significant Houthi infrastructure, including command centers, air defense systems, advanced weapons manufacturing facilities, and storage sites for ballistic missiles, anti-ship cruise missiles, drones, and unmanned surface vessels. CENTCOM also stated that U.S. strikes had significantly damaged the Ras Issa oil terminal, thereby hindering the Houthis' financial capabilities.
CENTCOM further reported a substantial decrease in Houthi attacks, noting a 69% reduction in ballistic missile launches and a 55% decrease in suicide drone attacks since the commencement of the campaign.
According to the statement, the operations involved a U.S. strike force comprising the carrier groups USS Harry S. Truman and USS Carl Vinson, along with specialized special forces units. CENTCOM affirmed its commitment to continue exerting pressure on the Houthis until freedom of navigation and American deterrence in the region are fully re-established.
Since March 15, U.S. airstrikes have targeted Houthi-held areas across six Yemeni provinces in response to the group's repeated attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea.
While American reports indicate approximately 750 strikes resulting in the deaths of numerous Houthi leaders and a significant degradation of the group's military capabilities, the Houthis have claimed higher casualties, reporting over 215 deaths and more than 400 injuries within their ranks.
