Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), today began an official visit to the Russian Federation at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, according to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba).
Saba reported that al-Alimi will hold discussions with Putin aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating stances on various issues of mutual interest. Key topics will include developments in the Yemeni file, efforts to establish peace, and regional and international security.
The visit program also includes meetings with senior Russian government officials, as well as political, diplomatic, and intellectual figures interested in Yemeni affairs and its cultural heritage.
According to an official source, the visit comes amid active diplomatic efforts and communications led by the PLC head, council members, and the government to bolster international unity regarding the Yemeni situation. These efforts aim to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and realize their aspirations for restoring state institutions, security, stability, peace, and development.
In mid-May, al-Alimi met with the Acting Russian Ambassador to Yemen, Evgeny Kudrov, to discuss current developments and international issues of mutual concern, including preparations for al-Alimi's anticipated visit to Russia, Saba reported.
