A devastating landmine explosion in Yemen's central Al-Baydha governorate today claimed the life of one civilian and severely injured two others from the same family. Human rights sources attributed the blast to a landmine planted by the Iran-backed Houthi group.

The Eye for Human Rights Organization, in a statement obtained by "Bran Press," reported that a landmine planted by Houthis in the Shokan area detonated a civilian vehicle. The explosion killed Jaza' Mubarak Al-Qar Al-Qaisi and left two of his relatives with serious injuries.

The organization vehemently condemned the incident, describing it as a "flagrant violation of international humanitarian law" and an "extension of a series of crimes affecting civilians due to landmines planted by the Houthi group in vast areas of Yemen."

In its statement, the organization urged the international community and human rights bodies to denounce the incident, pressure the Houthi group to cease planting landmines and surrender their maps, support demining efforts, and provide medical and psychological care to the victims.

It also called for independent investigations into the crime to ensure accountability for those involved, emphasizing the urgent need for international action to protect civilians and halt human rights abuses in the country.

UN reports indicated that the Houthi group has planted approximately two million landmines across various areas it has controlled, resulting in the death and injury of over 20,000 civilians, the majority of whom are women and children.
While human rights reports accuse the Houthis of "transforming Yemen into the world's largest minefield," rights organizations have repeatedly called on the group to hand over maps of the landmines they have planted to organizations working in demining.
