Indian Ship Laden with 600 Tons of Cement Sinks off Socotra

Yemeni official sources reported on Thursday, May 30th, 2024, the sinking of an Indian commercial ship off the coast of the Socotra Archipelago province. The ship was en route to the island from the Sultanate of Oman.

Said Al-Asmahi, the Coast Guard Director in Socotra, stated that "The Indian ship named Al-Jilani, sank 30 miles off the coast of the Socotra Archipelago province. It was carrying a cargo of 600 tons of cement, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba."

Al-Asmahi confirmed the cooperation of the local authorities in the province, as a rescue operation was launched at the site of the sinking. Eight out of the nine crew members were rescued, while one is reported missing.
