Marib's "General People's Congress" Branch Denounces "Suspicious" Elements Aiming to Divide Party

The leadership and base of the General People's Congress (GPC) in the Harib district of Marib province have issued a strong statement condemning "suspicious" individuals who they claim are attempting to fracture the party from within, allegedly with external funding.

The statement, released on Sunday, June 23, 2024, and seen by Barran Press, expressed alarm at the actions of these individuals, whom they accuse of attempting to further fragment the party and undermine its leadership and base in Harib. They allege that these individuals are operating outside the party's established regulations and have established a headquarters without legal authorization.

The statement accuses these unnamed individuals of receiving "suspicious" foreign funding to carry out their "illegal activities." It emphasizes that these actions are occurring at a time when the GPC leadership in Marib, under the leadership of Sheikh Abdul Wahid Ali Al-Qabli Nimran, and the Harib branch leadership, are working to unify the party's ranks and leadership following its regulations.

The statement calls on all GPC members to resist these individuals and urges the security and military forces in Harib to prevent anyone from falsely claiming to represent the party, particularly those known for their negative stances towards the nation.

The statement warns against engaging with these individuals who disregard the party's regulations and holds them responsible for any ensuing chaos that could negatively impact the political and social life of the district.

The statement calls on the local authority in Marib, under the leadership of Presidential Leadership Council member Major General Sultan bin Ali Al-Arada, the governor and head of the local council, to apprehend these individuals and address their irresponsible actions.

The statement reiterates its call for all members and supporters of the party to resist those seeking to divide the party in the district, as this could undermine the security and stability of the area. It considers this scheme to be an act of revenge for the historical stance of the GPC leadership and base in Harib, who have consistently supported the Yemeni government and opposed the Houthi insurgency, which is internationally designated as a terrorist group.

The statement urges party members to unite, speak with one voice, and avoid division, echoing the late leader Ali Abdullah Saleh's call for unity against the Houthi militia. It expresses regret that some individuals persist in their efforts to divide the party and hold them responsible for the consequences of their actions, which they deem to be outside the bounds of legal authority.

Earlier on Sunday, local sources reported the opening of a new GPC headquarters in Harib, inaugurated by Sheikh Mansour Al-Sayyadi, who was introduced as the head of the GPC branch in Marib. The event was attended by Abdullah Saeed Atiya, acting head of the party's branch in Harib.

According to sources, Al-Sayyadi delivered a speech during the inauguration, conveying greetings from Brigadier General Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, son of former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, and expressing gratitude to the "Southern Giants Brigades" for their support and efforts.

This event is the subject of the warning issued by the GPC leadership and base in Harib, who view it as a "suspicious scheme" targeting the GPC in Harib and seeking revenge for its historical support of the Yemeni government and opposition to the Houthi insurgency.

The GPC has experienced significant internal divisions since the Houthi takeover of the Yemeni capital Sana'a and their subsequent coup against the legitimate Yemeni government in late 2014. These divisions deepened following the death of party leader Ali Abdullah Saleh at the hands of his Houthi allies in late 2017.
