The Yemeni Ministry of Interior has accused the Houthi rebels of kidnapping and executing a wounded civilian from the Qifah district of al-Bayda governorate.
According to a statement released by the ministry's Security Media Center, seen by "Barran Press", the Houthis abducted "Maqbul Alou" from a hospital in Rada'a on Sunday, August 11th, and subsequently executed him. Alou had been receiving treatment for injuries sustained during clashes with the Houthis in the village of "Hamat Sarar" in the Qifah district.
The incident follows a successful tribal mediation effort that lifted a Houthi siege on "Hamat Sarar" on August 11th. The mediation resulted in an agreement to lift the siege, remove checkpoints, and exchange the bodies of two villagers killed in clashes with the Houthis for four individuals sought by the Houthis.
The Houthis, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), claimed that their security operation in "Hamat Sarar" was successful and lifted after the cooperation of local residents, seemingly acknowledging the role of tribal mediation.
The clashes erupted last Wednesday after two young men were killed at a Houthi checkpoint on the road leading to "Hamat Sarar." The ensuing fighting resulted in the deaths of four Houthi fighters, including two snipers positioned in the village mosque. The snipers had opened fire on residents before being killed by villagers.
The Ministry of Interior's statement condemns the Houthi's actions as a violation of human rights and a blatant disregard for the ongoing peace efforts in Yemen. The incident highlights the ongoing violence and instability in the country, despite recent attempts at de-escalation.
