Abdulmajid Abdullah Abde Al-Fakhri, a young man from Ibb Governorate, has become a national hero after his courageous rescue of a mother and child from surging floodwaters. His story has gone viral, with social media platforms buzzing with admiration for his bravery.
On Thursday, August 15th, heavy rains and flash floods swept through Ibb, leaving many stranded and in need of urgent assistance. Al-Fakhri, who was not planning on becoming a hero that day, found himself thrust into a life-saving situation.
While a family of 13, consisting of women and children, was trapped in their humble home in the Jabal area of Ibb, Al-Fakhri and his cousin, باسم, stepped in to help. With the help of others who pulled the survivors up with ropes, they managed to rescue the entire family from the rising waters.
Al-Fakhri, who is unemployed and supports his wife and three children by collecting empty water bottles, told "Barran Press" that he and the rescued family were neighbors. He emphasized that he was not related to them, highlighting the selfless nature of his actions.
A widely shared video captured the moment Al-Fakhri rescued a woman clinging to her child as they were submerged in the floodwaters inside their ground-floor home.
Tragedy Strikes as Two Other Heroes Lose Their Lives
On the same day, two young men, Ayham Al-Arhabi and Wudei Qanaf, tragically lost their lives while attempting to rescue two children swept away by the floods in the city of Ibb. The two heroes successfully saved the children but were unable to escape the raging waters themselves. Their bodies were later found in separate locations in the Al-Qafr district of Ibb.
Local sources confirmed that Al-Arhabi's body was found in the Zubaid valley between the Al-Ahkum and Al-Qafr areas, while Al-Qanaf's body was discovered in the Rababa area of Al-Qafr district, north of Ibb.
The story of Al-Fakhri's heroism and the tragic loss of Al-Arhabi and Al-Qanaf serve as a stark reminder of the devastating power of nature and the courage of those who risk their lives to save others. Their actions have left a lasting impact on the community, inspiring hope and highlighting the importance of unity and compassion during times of crisis.
