Five people have died and five others have been injured in incidents related to heavy rains lashing Hajjah governorate (northwest Yemen), local sources reported on Thursday.
The Houthi-controlled Saba news agency reported that two people died when a truck they were traveling in slid off the road due to heavy rains in the Bani Kaab area, under Houthi control.
The agency also cited sources stating that a house collapsed on its occupants in the Mahbaysha district of the same governorate, resulting in the death of a young girl and injuries to her sister and mother.
Since the beginning of August, Yemen has been experiencing heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds, causing dozens of deaths and affecting nearly a quarter of a million people, particularly those living in displacement camps.
The United Nations stated on Monday that the harsh weather conditions in Yemen will continue until September.
Yemen suffers from severe infrastructure weakness, exacerbating the impact of floods and adding to the misery of residents already struggling with fragile essential services due to the ongoing civil war, which began almost 10 years ago.
