Local sources reported on Friday, August 23, 2024, that a family of six was killed when their house collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the Mahweet province (northwestern Yemen).

According to sources for "Barran Press", "Hassan Al-Droubi" and his family, including his wife and four children (three girls and a boy), died when their house roof suddenly collapsed early Friday morning in the village of Shamsan, Khbet district.

Sources explained that locals rushed to the scene immediately after the incident and attempted to rescue the family, but unfortunately, they were found to have lost their lives after the rubble was lifted.

Since the beginning of August, Yemen has been experiencing heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, resulting in dozens of deaths and affecting nearly a quarter of a million people, particularly those living in displacement camps.

The United Nations stated on Monday that the harsh climate in Yemen is expected to continue until September.

Yemen's weak infrastructure has exacerbated the impact of the floods, adding to the misery of the population, who are already suffering from the fragility of basic services due to the consequences of a civil war that began nearly 10 years ago.
