Rashad Al-Alimi Attends Opening Session of 79th UN General Assembly in New York

New York, USA – On September 24, 2024, Rashad Al-Alimi, President of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, participated in the opening session of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York. He was accompanied by Council members Aidarus Al-Zubaidi and Othman Majali, alongside leaders from various nations and representatives from regional and international organizations.

According to the Yemeni News Agency Saba, Yemen's delegation also includes Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Shaea Al-Zindani, Yemen's Permanent Representative to the UN Abdullah Al-Saadi, and Yemen's Ambassador to the United States Mohammed Al-Hadrami.

Al-Alimi is scheduled to deliver a speech on Thursday, September 26, where he will address the current national situation and outline the Council and government's vision for achieving lasting and comprehensive peace based on agreed-upon national, regional, and international references. He will also discuss recent developments on both regional and international fronts.

The opening session began with remarks from UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the current President of the Assembly, Philémon Yang. This year's assembly is themed "Leaving No One Behind: Working Together for Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Current and Future Generations."

On September 21, Al-Alimi and his fellow Council members arrived in New York to participate in the high-level Future Summit sponsored by the UN, as well as the General Assembly sessions that commenced on Tuesday.
