On Friday, September 27, 2024, Maj. Gen. Sultan Al-Arada, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, and Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed bin Mubarak, directed all concerned government ministries and agencies to double their efforts and coordinate with all international partners to meet the needs of the displaced in Marib Governorate.

This came during their inspection tour of the displaced persons in the Al-Jufainah and Al-Sawdaa camps in the city of Marib, where they were briefed on the conditions of the displaced in the camps, their humanitarian and living conditions, according to the Yemeni news agency Saba (official).

The visit included the Al-Jufainah camp, south of the city of Marib, one of the largest displacement camps in Yemen, and the Al-Sawdaa camp, north of the city, which houses more than 2,170 displaced families.

According to the Saba agency, Al-Arada, and bin Mubarak listened to a number of displaced families in the camps and learned about their humanitarian conditions, living circumstances, and the impact of the declining role and weak interventions of international organizations working in the relief and humanitarian fields on their lives.

During the visit, they were briefed on "the most basic and urgent needs of the displaced in the camps in the areas of food, shelter, water, and environmental sanitation, which have been exacerbated by the disasters caused by climate change, in addition to the necessary services in the health and education sectors and other service sectors in the camps." They also "were informed about the extent of the significant damage caused by the heavy rains and strong winds that hit Marib last August on the homes and temporary shelters of the displaced in the camps, and the measures taken and emergency interventions provided to rescue those affected and complete the repair of the damage to public services in the camps."

Al-Arada and bin Mubarak called on the United Nations and its various organizations, as well as all regional and international humanitarian and relief organizations, to assume their responsibilities and play their humanitarian role towards the displaced hosted by Marib Governorate with its limited capabilities and scarce resources, calling for "doubling the volume of humanitarian interventions in the governorate in proportion to the number of displaced persons in it."

They directed "all concerned government ministries and agencies to double their efforts and coordinate with all international partners to meet the needs of the displaced in these two camps and all displacement camps in Marib Governorate."

Marib Governorate hosts 204 camps and gatherings for the displaced, with their percentage exceeding more than 62% of the total displaced in Yemen, with the displacement movement to the governorate continuing on a daily basis, according to official statistics.
