On Wednesday, October 2, the Yemeni rial experienced another decline against foreign currencies in areas controlled by the internationally recognized government, following a slight recovery in recent days.
A "Barran Press" reporter noted that today's exchange rate for the local currency against the Saudi riyal in Marib and Hadramout was 503 Yemeni rials for each Saudi riyal for buying and 504 for selling.
This drop comes after a brief improvement in the Yemeni rial in government-controlled areas, where it had reached 493 rials per Saudi riyal.
The depreciation of the national currency can be attributed to the Houthi group's ban on oil exports and attacks on Yemeni ports in October 2022, as well as their restrictions on the entry of local gas supplies from Safer into their controlled areas since May 2023, forcing reliance on imported gas from Iran.
