Israeli military sources indicate that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are gearing up for a significant offensive against Iran in response to recent missile attacks launched by Tehran, according to a report by the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz.

An Israeli military official, speaking to AFP on the condition of anonymity, stated, "The IDF is preparing a response to Iran's unlawful and unprecedented attack against civilians and Israel."

The missile assault carried out by Iran on the evening of Tuesday, October 1, was described as "the largest in Israel's history" by a spokesperson for Israel's UN ambassador, Danny Danon, as reported by ABC News. Danon remarked, "Iran executed the largest and most intense missile attack against the State of Israel in its history. We are prepared and ready for both defensive and offensive actions."

A senior U.S. State Department official told CNN on Friday that Israel has not provided assurances to the White House regarding the non-targeting of Iranian nuclear facilities in light of the missile strikes from Tehran.

The official added, "It’s really hard to know whether Israel will use the first anniversary of the October 7 attacks to execute its response against Iran."

Previous reports have suggested that potential Israeli targets in Iran could include oil, military, and nuclear facilities.

The unnamed official expressed hope that Israel would exhibit "some wisdom in refraining from targeting nuclear sites," but cautioned, "As you know, there are no guarantees."

Earlier this week, U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the U.S. would not support any Israeli strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, advising, "If I were in their position, I would consider alternative options."
