On Sunday, October 13, 2024, a security official in Al-Mokha, located in the western part of Taiz Governorate in southwestern Yemen, announced the referral of the case involving 5-year-old Mohammed Haitham, who was murdered by a relative just days prior.

Makrad explained that the transfer of the case to the public prosecution followed the completion of the necessary legal procedures and evidence collection by the Al-Mokha Security Directorate.
Local sources reported on Saturday that security forces, in collaboration with local leaders and sheiks, discovered the body of the child, who had multiple stab wounds and had been dismembered, near the Martyrs' Cemetery of the National Resistance Forces north of Al-Mokha city.
Later that same day, authorities arrested a relative of the child, who has been accused of "raping and then killing" him. According to sources, the suspect confessed to the heinous crime, which has shocked the coastal city and garnered widespread public attention.
