On Thursday, October 31, 2024, Rashad Al-Alimi, President of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, met with U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin to discuss the international support needed to mitigate the repercussions of halted oil exports, a situation attributed to the Iran-backed Houthi group, which is classified as a terrorist organization.
According to the official Yemeni News Agency Saba, the meeting addressed the latest developments in Yemen and explored avenues for bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
The discussions also covered the impact of rising shipping costs on living conditions in Yemen, exacerbated by terrorist attacks carried out by the Houthis with Iranian support.
Al-Alimi briefed the U.S. ambassador on local developments, emphasizing Yemen's stance on regional issues, particularly condemning Israel's brutal violations against the Palestinian people and supporting their right to establish a fully sovereign state, in line with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
During the meeting, Al-Alimi praised the strong bilateral relations with the United States, highlighting its humanitarian and developmental interventions. He expressed hope for increased efforts to intercept and halt Iranian arms shipments that threaten the security and stability of Yemen and the broader region.
