On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the Yemeni Army announced that it had carried out a "qualitative operation" targeting positions held by Houthi militants, classified as a terrorist organization, on the eastern front of Taiz, southwestern Yemen.
According to the Yemeni Army's official news outlet, September Net, a military source reported that the forces successfully detonated a hangar and a tunnel used by Houthi militias for operations against the army. The hangar and tunnel were located near the Al-Tashrifat military camp, and this operation was described as a response to the repeated attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthi group.
The Taiz military media indicated that the Houthis were targeting residential areas surrounding the Al-Khayr Mosque, Al-Tashrifat, and the Maneef Pass, east of the city.
Military sources also reported "intense" clashes between Yemeni Army forces and Houthi militants in the Al-Tashrifat and Al-Qasr fronts east of Taiz. This marks the first military operation announced by the army since the declaration of a UN humanitarian ceasefire in April 2022.
Occasional limited clashes and exchanges of artillery and rocket fire have been reported in the battlefronts surrounding Taiz, but there have been no announcements of casualties.
