On December 15, 2024, Sultan Al-Arada, a member of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, urged the French government and international partners to "correct the course of the political process in Yemen" and identify the parties obstructing peace. He emphasized the need for decisive actions against these impediments to ensure a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace that ends the Yemeni crisis.
During a meeting with the French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Corm-Kammoun, Al-Arada highlighted the dangers posed by the Houthi movement, which is internationally classified as a terrorist organization, noting their ongoing escalations in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf. He described their actions as "hostile," impacting one of the world's most crucial maritime routes and posing significant risks to international shipping security and the global economy.
Al-Arada reiterated the international community's responsibility to respond to Houthi threats to maritime navigation, calling for urgent and strong measures to deter such actions. He also stressed the need to halt regional support for the Houthis and cut off their funding sources.
He reaffirmed the Presidential Leadership Council’s commitment to supporting any genuine efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen based on three fundamental references: the Gulf Initiative and its Implementation Mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Resolution 2216.
In response, Ambassador Corm-Kammoun expressed France's commitment to supporting the Yemeni government and international efforts to resolve the crisis. She reiterated France's stance against any escalation that could hinder peace initiatives and the pursuit of a comprehensive settlement in Yemen.
Earlier that day, Al-Arada also met with British Ambassador Abda Sharif, urging the United Kingdom to play a more strategic role in the Yemeni file and to rally the international community against Iran's destructive influence and aggressive interventions in Yemen.
He emphasized that any regional or international efforts to achieve peace in Yemen must adhere to the agreed-upon political solutions, ensuring a unified approach to the ongoing crisis.
