Marib, Yemen – On December 16, 2024, the Marib Military Hospital announced the successful removal of a rare tumor from a patient's lung by its specialized medical team.
According to a post on the hospital's Facebook page, Dr. Rafiq Al-Husseini, a general surgery specialist at Marib Military Hospital, performed a complex surgery to extract a Pancoast tumor from the upper lobe of the patient’s right lung.
The hospital's media office reported that the tumor was causing significant pressure on the right side of the body, leading to severe respiratory difficulties and acute pain for the patient. The operation, which lasted several hours, successfully removed the tumor while preserving surrounding tissues to minimize potential complications. The patient's condition is currently stable, and they are receiving care in the intensive care unit.
Hospital director Brigadier Ahmed Dahmas praised this medical achievement, highlighting the ongoing commitment of the medical staff to provide exceptional healthcare services. The surgical team also included anesthesiologist Dr. Nawaf Al-Batul and operating room technician Khalid Al-Hakimi.
