HADRAMOUT, Yemen - The Hadramut Tribes Alliance on Saturday reiterated its demand for "self-rule" in the eastern province of Hadramout, despite the recent unveiling of a stabilization plan by the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council.
In a statement obtained by Barran Press, the Alliance outlined its position following an "extraordinary meeting" convened to assess the Council's proposal. While acknowledging the plan's aim to address the concerns of Hadramout's residents, the Alliance emphasized that self-rule remains crucial to ensure the province's autonomy and prevent external interference or marginalization.
The Alliance expressed its willingness to cooperate with the Council in implementing the stabilization plan effectively.
On January 7, the Presidential Leadership Council approved a comprehensive plan to meet the demands of the people of Hadramout. The plan outlines six key measures, including the use of local oil revenues to build new power stations, increasing Hadramout’s involvement in both local and national decision-making, and integrating the province’s residents into the armed forces and security services within established legal frameworks.
