The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) announced on Thursday, February 20, 2025, continued progress on the second phase of the Al-Abr International Road rehabilitation project. Specifically, work is underway on the 40-kilometer "Gweirban - Al-Dhowaybi" segment.

The SDRPY stated that 23 kilometers of this segment are now complete, adding to the 50 kilometers completed in the first phase, which stretched from Al-Dhowaybi to Al-Abr. The program aims to expedite the project's completion for the benefit of travelers.

Phase two, which began on November 21, 2024, traverses the Hadramout and Marib governorates, providing a crucial link between Yemen and Saudi Arabia. The overall project, launched on September 13, 2021, aims to improve road safety, ease transportation, and reduce hazards. The total project cost is approximately 36 million Saudi Riyals.
