MADRID –  Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called on the international community on February 19, 2025, to develop a plan for the reconstruction of Gaza that does not involve the displacement of Palestinians.  He made the remarks during a joint press conference with the Spanish Prime Minister in Madrid, according to Reuters.

El-Sisi reiterated his rejection of previous proposals, including one by a former U.S. administration, to relocate Palestinians to neighboring countries, underscoring Egypt's firm position on the matter. He emphasized the need for immediate relief and early recovery efforts in the region.

He also stressed the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in providing critical health and educational services to millions of Palestinians in the occupied territories, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan.
