The U.S. State Department announced on Tuesday a reward of up to $15 million through its “Rewards for Justice” program for information leading to the disruption of the financial networks of the Iran-backed Houthis.

According to a statement by the department of the state, the reward is part of U.S. efforts to combat terrorism and protect global security.

The State Department underscored that the designation of the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization reflects Washington’s commitment to safeguarding national interests and ensuring the safety of American citizens. It warned that the group’s activities endanger civilians, threaten international maritime trade, and destabilize regional security.

Since 2023, the Houthis have carried out hundreds of attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, as well as targeting U.S. forces and their allies, the statement noted. The U.S. reiterated that it will not tolerate any country engaging with terrorist organizations like the Houthis under the pretext of legitimate business activities.
