Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council member Tareq Saleh on Sunday hailed recent U.S. airstrikes against the Iran-backed Houthis, labeling them a "clear signal" of international recognition of the group's threat to global security.
In a post on X, Saleh noted the persistent threats the Houthis pose to Red Sea navigation, which prompted President Donald Trump's directive for focused strikes on the group's bases, leadership, and missile defenses. Saleh emphasized the need for precision to minimize humanitarian risks.
Over the past 24 hours, U.S. forces launched intense airstrikes on Houthi-held areas, including Sana'a, Saada, Dhamar, Al-Bayda, Marib, and Hajjah. According to Reuters, U.S. officials revealed that the campaign, authorized by Trump, is expected to last several days or weeks, marking a shift to a more aggressive approach compared to the previous administration.
Trump declared the strikes a "decisive and powerful action" against the Houthis, addressing them directly: "Your time has come."
Saleh called for broader international cooperation to curb the Iran-backed Houthis' influence, cut off funding, and address their repeated threats.
