A prominent leader in the Islah Party and member of the Yemeni Parliament, Abdul Razzaq al-Hajri, affirmed on Thursday that the Yemeni people's battle against the Houthi group is "not merely a political struggle" but a fight to safeguard the republic and the state. He asserted that it is an extension of the nation's broader struggle against the tools of occupation, discord, and division.
Al-Hajri's remarks were delivered during his participation in the Conference of the Union of Councils of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. He attended as the head of the Yemeni Parliament's delegation, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.
In Yemen's address to the conference, MP al-Hajri detailed the crimes of the Houthi group, which he described as having "violated cities, killed tens of thousands of Yemeni citizens, displaced innocent people, and bombed homes, schools, and mosques."
He further stated that the group has recruited children, plundered state institutions, violated public and private freedoms, worked to fragment the social fabric, and imposed a sectarian and racist project that threatens the stability of Yemen and the region. He also accused them of blackmailing the world by threatening international navigation routes in implementation of external agendas that have harmed the region and the world.
In light of this, MP al-Hajri declared, "Yemen is waging a fateful battle against the Houthis, the group that has staged a coup against the state, brought calamities upon our people, and committed grave crimes and violations against them."
He pointed to the latest Houthi crimes as attacks on ports, airports, and the interests of the Yemeni people. At the same time, he strongly condemned the Israeli strikes and aggressions, holding the Houthis responsible for turning Yemen into a conflict zone to protect the interests of their financiers.
To liberate Yemen and end the Houthi coup, MP al-Hajari called for increased support for the Yemeni government to restore state institutions and stand against those who fund this group to destabilize the security and stability of Yemen and the region.
