The Taiz branch of the Yemeni Journalists' Syndicate reported on Tuesday that journalist Yassin Al-Aqlani of "Yemen Shabab Net" has received serious threats. The threats allegedly came from the brother of a government official, in response to Al-Aqlani's recent report on irregularities in secondary school exams for Yemenis in Egypt.

The syndicate stated that Al-Aqlani received an explicit phone threat on Monday afternoon from the brother of Aden's Undersecretary of Education, who reportedly vowed to "shackle you and bring you to Aden." The syndicate strongly condemned these threats, holding the official and his brother fully responsible for Al-Aqlani's safety, and urged the Ministry of Education to investigate. It stressed that officials should use legal channels, not intimidation, for grievances.

In a separate development, the Taiz Journalists' Syndicate welcomed the resolution of the case involving journalist Imran Al-Hammadi. All charges against him have been dropped after a physical assault by a soldier from the 35th Armored Brigade. The syndicate reiterated that the initial incident was an unacceptable assault and that subsequent legal procedures should have been handled without malicious accusations.
The syndicate praised a Monday meeting with the 35th Armored Brigade leadership and community figures, which resulted in an amicable settlement, a formal apology to Al-Hammadi, and the dismissal of all charges. The syndicate concluded by emphasizing the need for a safe and free environment for journalists in Taiz, highlighting freedom of expression as crucial for a democratic society.
