A discussion session chaired by the Director of the Planning and International Cooperation Office in Marib Governorate (northeastern Yemen) on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, emphasized the need for a comprehensive study to "transition from the emergency phase to the sustainability phase in the field of livelihoods," in coordination with relevant authorities.

The session, which included representatives from the Statistics, Public Health and Population Offices, and the Executive Unit for Displaced Persons in the governorate, discussed humanitarian assistance in Marib, focusing on the Food Security and Livelihood Resilience Program funded by the European Union.

Participants reviewed the number of beneficiaries of aid in the governorate, the reasons for its discontinuation, the situation of displaced persons in the event of aid cuts, and the potential health risks associated with such cuts. They also explored possible solutions to address these challenges to ensure the continued flow of aid to those in need.

The discussion session recommended updating beneficiary data, improving food security information, diversifying funding and distribution channels by seeking new additional sources, urging international and UN organizations to focus on livelihood projects, and increasing coordination between government and local authorities to ensure the regular disbursement of aid provided.

The Food Security and Livelihood Resilience Program, funded by the European Union, is implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with the Food Security Technical Secretariat at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in the internationally recognized Yemeni government. It aims to enhance food security and support sustainable livelihoods in Yemen.
