A Houthi commander was killed and two of his aides injured in a targeted operation by the Yemeni army east of Taiz city, a military source in the Taiz axis told reporters on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
According to the Yemeni Ministry of Defense website, "September Net," the source stated that the 2nd Battalion of the 22nd Mechanized Brigade in the Taiz axis carried out a surprise operation against the Houthis in the "Tabsha'a" area on the Sarmine front, east of the city.
The source clarified that the operation resulted in the death of the Houthi militia supervisor in the area and the injury of two of his aides.
He further mentioned that in recent days, the battalion has successfully eliminated four Houthi leaders, including the commander of the Asifra front, who was posing as the "director of the central prison."
Meanwhile, Houthi militants launched shelling on Wednesday evening at army positions west of the governorate.
According to a brief statement by the Taiz Military Axis Media Center, the Houthis targeted army positions in the Dhabab area with mortar shells. The statement confirmed that the army artillery retaliated against the sources of fire, without specifying any casualties.
Last Saturday, July 13, military sources confirmed the deaths of two Houthi militants and the injury of four others in armed clashes with the Yemeni army west of Taiz city.
This occurred during a Houthi attempt to infiltrate army positions on the Yasin hill northwest of the city, according to sources who spoke to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.
The clashes resulted in the deaths of two Houthi militants and injuries to four others, while the rest fled.
The fronts in Taiz governorate have witnessed intermittent clashes between Houthi militants, internationally designated as a terrorist organization, and government forces, amid military reinforcements and mobilizations by both sides.
These clashes come amid fears of a return to war, despite regional and international efforts led by the United Nations to sign a roadmap to end the nine-year war, which has caused the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, according to the United Nations.
