Dozens of Palestinian civilians, including children, were killed and injured in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a school sheltering displaced families in the western part of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza on Saturday, July 27th, 2024.

Gaza health officials reported that at least 30 people were killed in the airstrike, which hit the school in the middle of the besieged territory.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that the bombing resulted in the deaths of 30 people and injured dozens more, including children and women.

Local sources cited by WAFA said that rescue and civil defense teams were still pulling bodies from the rubble, and that the injured were being transported to the "Martyrs of Al-Aqsa" hospital. The number of casualties is expected to rise.

Since the morning hours, 54 Palestinians have been killed and dozens more injured in Israeli airstrikes, including the attack on the Deir al-Balah school and other areas that the Israeli military claimed were "safe and humanitarian" in Khan Yunis in the south of the Gaza Strip, according to the Turkish news agency Anadolu.

Since October 7th, 2023, Israeli forces have been waging a "devastating" war on Gaza with full US support, resulting in over 129,000 Palestinian casualties, mostly children and women, and over 10,000 missing persons. The conflict has also caused widespread destruction and famine, claiming the lives of scores of children.

Israel continues its war against the Gaza Strip, ignoring the United Nations Security Council's resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire and disregarding the orders of the International Court of Justice, which has obligated it to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the dire humanitarian situation in the territory.
