Yemen's Foreign Minister, Shae'a al-Zandani, met with the Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, on Sunday, July 28th, to discuss the latest developments in Yemen and Saudi Arabia's efforts to bring peace to the country.

Al-Zandani, in a post on X ,seen by "Barran Press", stated that he and Ambassador Al Jaber discussed the current situation in Yemen and the significant efforts being made by the Kingdom to restore security, stability, and peace in Yemen.

The Foreign Minister praised the ongoing support and humanitarian and development interventions provided by Saudi Arabia to the Yemeni government and people. He described this support as a reflection of the strong historical ties between the two brotherly nations.

The meeting comes just days after the UN Special Envoy for Yemen announced that Yemeni parties had reached an agreement on a "de-escalation" in Yemen, highlighting Saudi Arabia's crucial role in achieving this agreement.

Last Tuesday, July 23rd, the UN Envoy's office announced that the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, had agreed on several measures to de-escalate tensions, particularly concerning the banking sector and Yemenia Airlines.

The agreement, according to a statement from the Envoy's office, included the following:

• Revoking recent decisions and actions taken against banks by both sides and halting any future similar decisions or actions.
• Resumption of Yemenia Airlines flights between Sana'a and Jordan, with an increase in the number of flights to three daily, and the introduction of daily flights to Cairo and India, or as needed.
• Holding meetings to address administrative, technical, and financial challenges facing the airline.
• Initiating meetings to discuss all economic and humanitarian issues based on a roadmap.

The UN Envoy, Hans Grundberg, acknowledged the significant role played by Saudi Arabia in reaching this agreement. He affirmed the UN's readiness to work with both parties to implement the agreed-upon measures and offered to facilitate communication with authorities in Jordan, Egypt, and India.

On December 23rd, 2023, the UN announced that Yemeni parties had reached understandings to commit to a set of measures including a nationwide ceasefire, measures to improve living conditions in Yemen, and engagement in preparations for the resumption of a comprehensive political process under UN auspices.

The roadmap and peace efforts in Yemen stalled due to attacks by the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization internationally, against commercial ships in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden, since November 2023.
