A senior official in the Marib Electricity Authority has confirmed to “Barran Press” that the Marib Gas Power Plant is currently out of service. The official, who requested anonymity as they are not authorized to speak to the media, attributed the outage to a gas shortage.
The official stated that electricity service to Marib City and other areas supplied by the plant is expected to resume within the next few hours.
The Marib Gas Power Plant, a gas-powered electricity generation facility located in Marib Governorate, first came online in 2009. The plant was completely shut down at the beginning of the war and the Houthi coup in late 2014.
In May 2020, the local authority in Marib, represented by Presidential Leadership Council member Major General Sultan al-Arada, initiated the plant's restart, achieving a total capacity of 341 megawatts.
