The internationally recognized Yemeni government, led by Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, has reviewed ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the fishing port in the Hajif area of Aden, the country's temporary capital, in preparation for its revitalization as one of the largest fish landing and export ports in the region.

According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, bin Mubarak received updates from the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries Salem Al-Saqtri and other officials regarding the recovery of sunken vessels in the port.

So far, ten out of a total of 22 sunken ships have been recovered, and approximately 250 meters of the port's 530-meter length have been cleared, with support from the United Nations Development Program and German assistance.

Port officials reported that studies, designs, and cost estimates for rehabilitating the central workshop and cold storage facilities—key components of the fishing port—have been completed. Additionally, an assessment of the current condition of the dock has been finalized, alongside a technical evaluation for rehabilitating the port and its infrastructure.

During his visit, the Prime Minister toured the port's dock and related service facilities, reaffirming government support for the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries' efforts to restore the fishing port's functionality to handle fish vessels and facilitate loading, unloading, and maintenance operations.

He emphasized the importance of completing the rehabilitation work to enhance the port's capabilities, contributing to sustainable development in the fisheries sector, which would positively impact the economy and food security.

The renovation project includes upgrading the infrastructure of key facilities, such as the 530-meter dock, an ice factory, a 2,000-ton cold storage unit, a fish processing center, administrative offices, seven storage units, energy systems, and the central workshop.
